Basic Alarm System Operation

We try to make using your alarm system simple.  Why?  Well, you'll use it more often.  So instead of just having a "sense of security," you actually have security.  To us, it is much more important that it is easy for YOU to use than it is easy for US to install or program.

Rampart Security Systems installed Napco Magum Alert systems for decades, and switched to DSC over 10 years ago.  If we did the installation in the 1980s-90s it is probably one of those.  Scroll down to find instructions.

The instructions on this page cover just the basics.  The video below is just for DSC. We installed those from the 1990s-the present.

We service other brands, too.  You can find more about most of them on the troublehooting page or by downloading the manual from our security system user manual page.

DSC/Partners/Security Partners:

To arm your system:  make sure all doors are closed and stay still if you are in range of a motion detector, then enter your code.

To disarm your system: enter your code.

To turn on or turn off the chime feature: hold down "Chime"

Bypassing:  To arm everything except motion detectors or other interior detection, press and hold "stay" .

Bypass zones by zone number by pressing *1 then selecting the zone to bypass (arrow key to the zone then * to select) then enter code.

Napco Magnum Alert systems:

To arm your system:  make sure all doors are closed and stay still if you are in range of a motion detector, then enter your code.

To turn on or turn off the chime feature: hold down 5

Bypassing: Press B/A or B/S (bypass button) on bottom row twice then enter your code (press bypass button  thrice before entering your code instead if your Napco/Magnum Alert system is over 8 zones)

On small Napco/ Magnum Alert systems press bypass button then zone number then enter your code.  (bypass light will turn on)

On Napco/ MA systems with over 8 zones press the bypass button (B/A or B/S) then the zone number.  (Bypass light will turn on)  After selecting all of the zones you want to bypass you THEN enter your code.   There is one tricky thing to remember, though.  The B/A or B/S button has a circle around the lettering.  That circle is the only zero on the keypad.  So, for zone 01-09 you press B/A twice, 1 ... B/A twice, 9.  To bypass zone 10, you press B/A, 1, B/A.
